Projects & BOQs

Create projects, build detailed bills of quantities, and track everything from first contact to job completion.

Creating a project

Every quote starts with a project. Head to Projects in the sidebar and click New Project.

You'll fill in:

  • Project name — something you'll recognise (e.g. "Unit 4 Bathroom Reno")
  • Client details — name and contact info
  • Address — start typing and we'll autocomplete it via Google Places
  • Start & end dates — helps with pipeline tracking

Project statuses

Projects follow a simple workflow so you always know where things stand:

Building a bill of quantities (BOQ)

The BOQ is the heart of every quote. It's your itemised list of everything the job needs — materials, labour, equipment — with quantities and prices.

Inside a project, you can add items two ways:

  • From your pricing list — search and select items you've already set up. The code, description, unit, and price auto-fill for you.
  • Custom items — add something unique to this job. Enter the description, quantity, unit, and price manually.

You can drag and reorder line items to match how you want the quote to read. Every item is fully editable — change quantities, tweak prices, adjust descriptions. Nothing is locked until you say so.

GST handling

Quotably handles Australian GST automatically. You choose the mode that suits your business:

  • GST Inclusive (default) — your prices already include GST. We'll calculate and show the GST component separately on the quote.
  • GST Exclusive — your prices are ex-GST. We'll add 10% on top and show the breakdown.

Confirming your BOQ

Once you're happy with the BOQ, hit Confirm. This locks it in and unlocks the option to generate a quote.

Think of it as your sign-off. Nothing gets sent to a client until you've reviewed every line and confirmed the BOQ. You're always in control.
